Dimitra Dimitrakopoulou (PhD) works as a Press and Communications Officer at the Bar Association of Thessaloniki and as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her research interests focus on online and participatory journalism, online social networking, new media and peace journalism. Recently, she is studying the construction of nationalistic speech on new media platforms. She has worked as a researcher in the newspapers working group of the European Concerted Research Action COST Action A20 under the title “The impact of the Internet on the Mass Media in Europe”. Currently, she is appointed as the national coordinator for Greece in the 4th Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) studying gender in the world’s news media. She is also participating in the “Worlds of Journalisms” project, one of the largest collaborative endeavors of journalism researchers from all major regions of the world and in the European Interdisciplinary Project under the title “Generations and on-line media in Europe: the relation of generations with radio, music and social networks (2009-2011). She has presented various papers in conferences and has published several papers on her research interests.
